Tire Maintenance Critical To Keep Your Car Rolling Smoothly

Monday, June 30th, 2008

By properly maintaining your tires, you could potentially be avoiding uneven wear, poor performance and possibly even a blowout. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, tire failures or blowouts are believed to contribute to over 400 deaths and 10,000 injuries in the United States every year. Even with those figures being made public, the surprising factor is that statistics have shown some drivers still fail to follow the basic tire maintenance guidelines that could help to prevent such occurrences.

In addition to overloading, under-inflation is one of the leading causes of tire failure. Simply put, this means putting too much air or not enough into the tires. Either of these can cause stress and excessive heat, which can lead to tire problems and may even result in a blowout or a car crash.

Many do not realize how much the change in outdoor temperature can actually affect a car, but it can. In fact, it can even affect the rate at which tires lose air and this is especially true during the warm spring and summer months. During a normal month, tires will lose approximately one or two pounds of pressure. During the warmer months, that number is even greater. The best way to avoid any tire-related mishap is to check your tire’s pressure every time you fill up your car’s fuel tank. At the very least, tire pressure should be checked once every month and prior to leaving for a long road trip. If you are uncomfortable checking the tires yourself, simply stop by the local auto repair shop and ask for assistance.

If you do have a blowout while driving, it is crucial that you not panic and slam on the breaks. This may be the first instinct, but it is a very bad move. In doing so, you may end up causing your car to swerve and potentially put you at risk for a much more serious accident. Instead, gradually apply the break until you have regained control over the vehicle. At that time, slowly guide your car to a safe area as far away from the road as possible.

The best way to avoid any type of tire failure is to take the appropriate steps to ensure they are in the best working condition possible. This would include regular inspections and checking the air pressure often. With the proper maintenance, a potential problem can be diagnosed before it occurs and will help to ensure you and your family will arrive at your destination safely.

Story Structure: James Bond (Goldfinger) Deconstructed

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The Hero’s Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon – understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

The Hero’s Journey:

Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

The Hero’s Journey is also a study of repeating patterns in successful stories and screenplays. It is compelling that screenwriters have a higher probability of producing quality work when they mirror the recurring patterns found in successful screenplays.

Story Structure: James Bond (Goldfinger) deconstructed

This James Bond story (often voted the best of the franchise) follows the Hero’s Journey by the book…best to follow this analysis whilst watching the movie…

Hero’s status: women look at him.

Hero’s ethics: “at least he won’t be exporting heroine…”

Hero’s capabilities enhanced: Bond looks into the lady’s eyes to see the villain behind him. His ability to fight; his intelligence: he uses the electric fire to kill the villain in the bathtub. Hero’s wit: “shocking…”

Consciously making the decision to push toward the Physical Separation: Bond plants the homing device.

Warning against the Physical Separation: Goldfinger warns Bond.

Threat of the Lieutenant demonstrated / Foreshadow of future conflict: Oddjob shows what he can do with the hat.

Trial 2: Meeting the Sword: Meeting Tilly.

Gaming Laptops, Custom Laptops And Budget Portables An Evolving Sector

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Move over Desktop PC, it’s the time of the laptop, or at least that what the colossal demand points to. I fear that like last year we will have issues getting the latest technology too. Its actually amazing that financial circumstances and all haven’t hindered this demand for laptops either. I think what makes it hard is that the thing changes all the time.

A number of brands have been launching gaming notebooks as of late. With prices coming down and new technology being released rather fast it means that purchasers are getting higher roi. The performance of gaming notebooks has greatly advanced and its really a feasible means of gaming. I also feel that a few gaming notebooks look really funky, with some sleek, aggressive features. Extreme game players will always be more partial to their desktop gaming machines for performance and rightly so but it’s the functionality notebooks give that influences people compromise on frame rates. Everyone always wishes to extract stupid amounts of performance from compact packages so I would predict thats where gaming notebooks are destined.

I feel we are seeing more start up business exclusively retailing custom built notebooks. The main advantages here are the fact that you can usually get advanced 3rd party parts in custom notebooks. In my view point being able to choose the cpu, ram and hard drive is best catered for the more demanding people out there. If you will be doing greater amounts of specialist activities on your laptop then those preconfigured ones will most likely not give all the flexibililty and power you desire. This is why custom notebooks exist. Manufacturers who offer custom notebooks normally give a greater personalised and local service as well. The fact that there is choice and rivals makes its very possible.

It’s amazing to see new laptop computers being released every 12 months. A unique thing I haven’t spoken off is the expansion of inexpensive ultramobiles. Obviously this will be something enormous in up and coming nations. I feel people would prefer to see larger portables that weigh a ton less than the current units. Stronger materials needed for such notebooks are still too pricey. I’m wondering how long before we run across gaming ultra mobiles. New notebooks are traditionally kept secret before launch so theres no knowing what new products we will get.

In my view Rizeon have the best laptops in relation to performance.

Attorney – Maybe Your Freedom Is In His Hands

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

The word attorney can, nowadays, tend to conjure up glossy images of a smart-suited person either prosecuting or defending someone in a court of law depicted television style, using every means possible and a few more, to plead the case for or against a defendant in a dramatic court case.

This to me is an indication of the populist view of the legal profession, portrayed for the benefit of worldwide audiences on our movie or television screens. The glamour part of the profession is painted on quite thickly to engender the romantic notion of a type of hero worship and aloofness for the legally-trained orators.

One thing I am sure that is often forgotten is that these people have the power to take the liberty from somebody in the dock on that day. I don’t think that is wrong incidentally, it’s just that we have to accept that our society appoints an attorney to protect us in the long-term from potentially dangerous criminals. We also have to remember that if an attorney is for example defending in a murder trial, he can only defend to the best of his ability with the evidence that is given. After all, the jury are the people who have the final say in these matters – and quite right to!.

Cynical I may be, but we if we are called to give evidence in a trial we take an oath or affirmation to tell the truth and, in this hypothetical case, we also presume that everyone else is telling the truth. We don’t hear of many perjury cases nowadays and yet there have to be lies told in every case that comes to court!

The word attorney, I feel, is a general term, depending on what part of the world you live in. I suppose, and as this is only my opinion, an attorney may be a solicitor, lawyer or barrister, depending on which part of the world you live and how you view the legal profession.

I find, as a lay person, the American legal system quite interesting. We hear expressions like District Attorney, State Attorney and other titles. I am guessing that these apply to various levels of legal practice, reliant on how people expand their knowledge and climb up the legal ladder. Attorney-General, I presume in the United States, would be the same say as the Lord Chief Justice in the United Kingdom. They would be in fact “the main man” – just a comparative term by the way, not in any way meant to be sexist or discriminatory.

Like any major profession, the wait to reach the heady heights of a courtroom battle is probably only open to a few more elite and more intelligent people, who have studied extensively and excessively to complete their chosen career path.

It is more likely that the attorney the general public would be dealing with on an every day basis, would be if we have some minor disagreement that needs a professional opinion on their specialist topics, whether it be house purchase, family law, patent laws and scores of other topics that perhaps don’t need the grand legal venue of a courtroom.

One thing that is for sure. An attorney plays a vital role in the democratic system. We rely heavily on being able to find justice for all in the way we live. Long may they prosper!

Use a Thick Dildo for a Marvellous Orgasm with your Significant Other

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Some men have a tough time keeping an erection and some chicks have awfully long sex drives, meaning it will take her a long time to climax Because of this contrast in sex drives, love making can become a frustrating and undesirable love making session. That’s why stubby dildos may be helpful. If the male spunks early in the game, or even if the girl just takes longer than her bloke, he can continue to penetrate the female with the stubby dildo. That way all sexual mischief doesn’t have to end. It gives the guy time to recharge his stamina and also helps the woman horny. Therefore when the gent is all set to come back into the love making session, the female will still be aroused enough to accept the boy. If you like lube you should try it with your favourite Sex Toys.

Your very most sensual field is your mind. And as significantly as numerous girls won’t admit this, the penis is a traditional symbol of fertility, no matter how great or little, it is still associated with power. Penetrating your woman with a thin dildo might often make a fantasy of power activity reality.

Some girls delight in the sensation of feeling full in their vagina or anus. Whenever a sex toy such as a big dildo, penetrates the vagina or bottom, the muscles contract around it. Tons of girls see the tightening of these muscles to be wonderfully enjoyable.

Thomas R. Cutler Contributes to Time Compression Technologies Magazine in Continuing Lean Manufactur

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

The September/October issue of Time Compression Technologies magazine includes a feature article, “Lean Manufacturing: How Big is the Market? Lean Enterprise: How Much Bigger is the Market?” authored by North America’s leading manufacturing journalist, Thomas R. Cutler (www.trcutlerinc.com).

Cutler provided a detailed history of the lean manufacturing marketing including how e-kanban solutions are central to an effective lean manufacturing initiative. According to Matthew Marotta, founder of Datacraft Solutions, “We do not charge for upgrades to the system as we learn about new best practices that clients ask us to incorporate. Before Datacraft incorporates the request, it is reviewed buy a lean advisory board to validate the value of the best practices and the value added impact upon our partner community. Once it is passed, they develop, test, and implement.”

The hosted solution provides the customer with their own set of servers which are maintained offsite by and outsourced set of administrators. All of the administration fees, equipment, support teams and software updates are all included in the monthly service fee which is less then the cost of hiring an internal system administrator.

The value of an ASP is that manufacturers can buy “by the drink”, low risk, and a see a rapid ROI. Only internet access is required.

The non-ASP option leaves manufacturers investing a large sum into the communication network, IT personnel, IT training, application servers, consulting for system modification, along with all the hidden costs that come with it. The only disadvantage of using an ASP is the client never owns the system (application), only their own data. This concern tends to be the issue of IT since they want to control all phases of the e-kanban operation. The cost of the control is wasteful and completely antithetical to a Lean Initiative.

While some ERP systems QAD, Factory Logic, and Supply Works have some e-kanban functionality is not their core focus, so manufacturers are purchasing the ERP system at a significant price tag including all the prices increases (and upgrade charges). From the perspective of Lean functionality and immediate ROI the cost cannot be justified, unless there is a plan for a manufacturer to replace the ERP system.

Create A Better Impresion With Your Emails

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

How do you come across in your emails?

As I receive more and more requests for
assistance by email, I also get more and more
poorly worded or badly formatted emails.

When you ask someone for help, or approach
them for the first time, you will get a much
better response if you word your initial
contact carefully. Take some time to think
about what you want from the other person.

Be descriptive, many people have a lot of
things on the go at once. You may know exactly
which piece of software you just bought which
didn’t work, but if the seller has 20 products,
an email saying “I couldn’t download the software”
will sit on the to do pile longer than one
which states which software you bought, and what
happened when you tried to download it.

DON’T USE ALL CAPITALS in an email, it is
considered shouting and also looks a tad
unprofessional if it is your initial contact
with someone who you may wish to do business
with at a later date.

Don’t demand action, request it, this is even
more important if you are asking for help or
you are referring to something which was free
in the first instance. You may think that would
be obvious, but I have personal experience
of people demanding action be taken when
something free didn’t work. A simple description
of your problem, and a “please advise” will get
you much better results much faster too.

Formatting your emails can also help enormously.
Putting in your own line breaks (using the enter
key) at around 60 characters or so will make
your email easier to read.

Add some contact information at the bottom too.
It’s much nicer to receive a reply from someone
using your own name, rather than just a dear sir
at the beginning, and you will get more personal
service if people at the other end of your emails
know your name. I personally like to send emails
to a person not just their email address.

These may seem like common sense to you, but take
a little time to see if you’re missing any of
these little points. Your email is a communication
as much as if you were face to face with someone.
Make sure they get the impression of you, that
you’d want them to have.

Deer Blinds – Find the Best One to Suit You!

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

If you thought that deer blinds are only good for concealing a hunter, you thought wrong. There are, actually, many other reasons to use deer blinds.

For one, a deer blind can keep you dry and comfortable in rainy weather.

For two, a deer blind will keep you warmer in cold weather. You can even set up a portable heater in there with you.

And for another thing, many deer blinds are big enough to conceal you and a few of your buddies. Yes, hunting is generally an individual’s sport, but it can be nice to be able to hunt with someone beside you every once in a while!

So, what kind of deer blind is best for you? First, read through this quick synopsis of multiple types of deer blinds:

Ladder deer blinds – a ladder stand allows you to hunt safely from higher up. Of course, it is still wise to wear a harness and to use other safety gear while up on the platform of a ladder stand. Any time you place yourself in a place in which you have a potential to fall, you are placing yourself in danger, especially when you have a gun. A problem with ladder deer blinds, though, is that they can be pretty heavy, so you cannot hike far with them.

Climber blinds – these deer blinds are much more portable than ladder deer blinds. You can use a climber deer blind high up in a tree or at its midsection, or anywhere you wish. And, in fact, if you put it up and then decide that you want to move, it is no problem. Just take it down and move to somewhere else.

Tent blinds – many hunters find tent blinds to be very convenient. They are easy to set up and keep hunters out of the weather.

Camo netting – this is most likely the easiest sort of blind to set up, as well as one of the lightest. With camo netting, you can almost instantly set up your own tent blind, anywhere you like. Be aware, though, that camo netting is not weather proof!

Box blind – this type of deer blind is one that you will likely set up and leave set up in a certain area. It is not very portable. A box blind is a great little “home” while you are out hunting that will protect you from the weather and from the cold. These kinds of deer blinds can be expensive, though.

There are many types of deer blinds out there, by many different manufacturers, in multiple sizes. Be sure to shop around and think about what sort of hunting you do (and when and where you do it), before deciding on which deer blind suits you best.

Anne Clarke writes numerous articles for websites on gardening, parenting, fashion, recreation, and home decor. Her background includes teaching and gardening. For more of her articles on recreation and hunting, please visit Deer Blinds.

Are You at Risk of Missing a Networking Opportunity?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I have a confession to make. The other day I was stocking up on necessities at my local supermarket when I came face to face with Duggie, who I haven’t seen for years. We went through all the – “How are you, what have you been up to, what’re you doing now” kind of stuff.

Duggie then says – “Alan, can I have one or two of your business cards in case I need to get in touch and to pass to other people.”

Now, I’m always nagging other people about never leaving home without business cards. Don’t even take out the garbage without a business card in your pocket. And guess what – I had no business cards to give to Duggie.

He then tells me that he was at a Dinner the previous evening and he met several new contacts – however, he’d also forgotten his business cards. Duggie has his own business and he’s always looking for new clients.

So let me say it again (and I’m also talking to myself) – never, never, never leave home without business cards. Don’t even dig the garden, wash the car or visit the supermarket without business cards.

There’s always a chance that you’ll meet someone who says – “And what do you do?” or “It’s ages since I’ve seen you, what sort of business are you in now?”

Be aware – new customers and clients are the lifeblood of any business so make sure you never miss an opportunity to make a new contact.
